It's that time again! Appraisals - who needs 'em?
For many businesses this is the time to do appraisals. You can almost hear the despondent sighs accompanied by the excuses ‘we’re doing OK , we can all see that’, or ‘I’m too busy delivering the work to have time to see how we are doing’ or – worst of all – ‘what’s the point? It can often appear that employees have the upper hand as far as their 'rights' go - with 'domestic emergencies', 'equal rights' and 'flexibility' being bandied about. How did you get on this winter?
Are you clear on what the law says about domestic emergencies? Do you have a policy yhat covers what should happen if an employee can't get to work because of bad weather? It should be in your absence policy and the sanctions for what happens for failing to follow it should be unmissable.
